How to submit: VIS submission and editorial process

In the wake of the global pandemic VIS #6 suggests focus on different aspects of contagion as a potent and multi-faceted concept, both literally and metaphorically. There are parallels and differences between the transmission of biological infection and the ways that artistic works and processes are shared, disseminated and spread – just as there are in distribution of knowledge, rumours and myths. In the arts it may manifest itself as inspiration, imitation, iteration, replication, mimetics, references, whispering games and in many more ways. How do we as artists infect each other? How is art and its associated ideas, aesthetics and forms transmitted – between artistic fields and between the arts as a whole and the receiver? Can art have any impact on the growing fear and protectionism between nations and regions? Are the forms within research for references and documentation a way of tracing patterns of artistic contagion?

VIS welcomes exposition proposals which address contagion from any of these perspectives – and of course many more.

Anna Lindal is a violinist, primarily active in experimental contemporary music and researcher in Music with a long and substantial international experience within vast parts of the musical and cultural field. She has among other things worked as Dean of the Faculty of Fine, Applied and Performing Arts at Gothenburg University and was President for the Society for Artistic Research and Concertmaster in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Stockholm.

VIS – Nordic Journal for Artistic Research is a digital journal about Artistic Research in the Nordic region. The journal is the result of a cooperation between Stockholm University of the Arts (SKH) and Norwegian Artistic Research Programme, Diku. The purpose of the journal is to serve as a basic source of knowledge for anyone who wants to learn and immerse themselves in artistic research in the Nordic region.
