University of the Arts Helsinki

Call for applications: MA in choreography

Application period 7 – 20 January 2021
Please note that the application period ends at 3pm, UTC +02:00.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Choreography is a full-time, two-year residential study programme that emphasises a historically conscious, yet critical, research-based approach to choreography. Admissions to the programme are every other year and in spring 2021 a maximum of five new students will be accepted into the programme.

In the programme, art and choreography are seen as material discourses that are in constant flux of interactions with society and its concerns, e.g. ecology or identity politics, while also taking into consideration topical theories of performance and artistic traditions, methods and practices. The programme offers the student a multifaceted learning environment that supports artistic development, reflection and knowledge of choreography through dialogue and collegial cooperation.

The programme seeks out students who already have a bachelor’s degree from a suitable area, preferably experience in the field of dance art and artistic work of their own. In the programme you will be part of a conversational and research-oriented community with an open-minded outlook on dance art and choreography, and to enjoy the Theatre Academy’s performance facilities which offer exceptionally good opportunities for the making of the four artistic projects that are part of the studies.

The programme collaborates with other degree programmes and the Performing Arts Research Center, that has been developing artistic research for already 20 years. It is proactive in study co-operations and in forming international partnerships, such as Nordic Choreographic Platform.
