CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - DR. ARTIUM in Performing Arts, Music and Film

Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) is developing a new Artistic Doctoral Programme in Performing Arts, Music and Film in collaboration with several international partners. The programme is due to launch in 2021. Combining music, the performing arts (theatre, dance, performance) and film, the programme sets out to explore the transdisciplinary connections between performative action/practice and reflection. The focus is on performative methodologies that generate insights or (embodied) knowledges through various processes (rehearsal, composing, staging, filming, teaching), as well as by drawing on both artistic and academic discourses, engaging in dialogue with practical exploration and contributing to the discourses as a result. The programme, which is organised jointly by the Department of Performing Arts and Film and the Department of Music, is embedded in an attractive and future-oriented environment at Switzerland’s largest arts university. The establishment of this third-cycle programme goes hand in hand with a newly established PhD Centre, cross-departmental PhD Schools and a growing international network, which will become an integral part of the programme.

For the first year, starting in October 2021, we are looking for candidates for the Dr. artium programme in Theatre, Music and Film. The ZHdK programme is run in close cooperation with the Doctoral School of Artistic Research (KWDS) at the University of Art and Design Graz (Austria), which has been in place since 2010, and is based on the high standards and demands of the model of artistic research developed there.
