February 21, 2022: Deadline for submissions for the field of artistic research in visual art and design research.

The Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in collaboration with the Latvian Academy of Culture, the Latvian Academy of Arts, the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Arts of the University of Latvia and the National Library of Latvia invites researchers, especially at the   doctoral   and   post-doctoral   level   to   take   part   at the international conference of artistic research in music, visual art, design, cinema, theatre, contemporary dance, and choreography.

And while the submission of the proposals in most of the conference fields are now closed the organizers decided to

extended call for papers for the field of artistic research in visual art and design research until the 21st of February.

Where to send proposals?

 

Proposals for the field of artistic research in visual art and design research should be sent by the 21^st of February 2022 in online format and should include the following:

• name, surname, title of the presenter/s;
• institutional affiliation;
• photo (as a separate jpg file);
• a title and written summary of the proposal (300 words maximum);
• a detailed programme of the lecture-recital: g. work title, year of creation;
• curriculum vitae (150 words maximum) and contact information;
• equipment needed for performances and presentations (instruments, data projectors, ).

The proposals will be peer-reviewed anonymously. Please note that all successful applicants must register for the conference.

The timetable for this process is as follows:

October 31, 2021: Circulation of the call.

February 21, 2022: Deadline for submissions for the field of artistic research in visual art and design research.

February 21, 2022: Results communicated to the applicants and launch of registrations.

February 28, 2022: Results communicated to the applicants and launch of registrations for the field of artistic research in visual art and design research.

Registration opens on 1^st of March 2022, after the selection process. May 5–7, 2022: the conference.

The participation in the conference is free of charge.

Presentation proposals

The conference will take place in hybrid form, with both online and in-person participation. The conference language is English.

The conference will feature state of the art presentations from a wide range of visual, media, and performing arts, music, design, craft, and hybrid disciplines.

Individual presentations

Forms for individual presentations are papers and lecture-recitals:

A PAPER should present artistic research and be no longer than 20 minutes.

A LECTURE-RECITAL will last 40 minutes, including at least 10 minutes of research introduction. The lecture-recitals will be included in music, audio-visual, choreography, and contemporary dance sections of the conference. The live performance or video is expected to be closely related to the contents of the research the participant is currently conducting. There will be an additional 10 minutes for questions and comments.

Join the seminar

Colleagues who wish to join the seminar discussions and opportunities for the sharing of knowledge and ideas but not make formal presentations are also cordially invited to attend and participate.

Panels

We encourage presentations in the form of panels. Proposals may be submitted for panels consisting of at least three presenters. The structure is at the discretion of the coordinator. The proposal must explain the overall purpose, the role of the individual participants, and signal the commitment of all participants attending the seminar.

Roundtables

We also encourage presentations in the form of roundtables. They provide opportunities for participants to discuss a subject with each other and with members of the audience. Roundtables should include at least four but no more than five presenters. We encourage formats that stimulate discussion and audience participation.

The organizer will solicit position papers of up to 15 minutes from each presenter and will facilitate questions and discussion for the remaining time. The structure is at the discretion of the convener who will chair the event. The proposal must explain the overall purpose, the role of the individual participants, and signal the commitment of all participants to attend the seminar. The total length of a roundtable will be one and a half hours inclusive of all discussions.

Publication

Conference abstracts will be published in advance on the conference website and in print. This will serve as a concert programme as well as provide background information about the participants and their research topics. The applicants are therefore strongly encouraged to include written comments discussing how their artistic and other research work support each other and towards which common goal they are directed. Peer-reviewed publication of selected conference proceedings is intended.
