University Professorship for Artistic Research

At the Gustav Mahler Private University of Music (GMPU) in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, from 1 October 2022 onwards a

University Professorship for Artistic Research

in the form of a full-time contractual employment relationship (40 hours per week) for a limited period of four years. The GMPU is currently in the process of preparing for the accreditation process for doctoral programs. After positive accreditation of the doctoral program, there is the possibility of an extension of the professorship.

Tasks:

  • Developing and leading the Artistic Research doctoral program
  • Responsible representation and promotion of the discipline in its entirety and in particular in the development and exploration of the arts
  • Participation in the further development of Artistic Research at the GMPU through the development, planning and implementation of research projects, if possible also in an international dimension
  • Teaching in the MA programs and the doctoral programs to be established
  • Supervision of theses and examination activities
  • Participation in academic self-administration, in organizational, administrative and committee tasks as well as in evaluation measures
  • Acquisition of third-party funds in connection with research projects of the department

Employment Requirements:

  • A doctorate in Artistic Research or Practice-Based Research (e.g. in Performance Studies, Composition, or Musicology)
  • An international reputation as an artist and scholar with an extensive and diverse artistic and scholarly practice at a high level
  • Teaching experience at university or college level
  • A very good command of written and spoken English and German (or, in the case of insufficient knowledge of German, the willingness to perform teaching and supervisory duties in German after a transition period and the acquisition of appropriate language skills)
  • Teamwork, organizational and communication skills

Other desired qualifications:

  • Inter-/transdisciplinary work
  • Experience in planning, raising funds, conducting, and organizing research projects
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Experience in the supervision of theses
  • International lecture and publication activity and involvement in the international professional community
  • Experience in obtaining third-party funds for research projects in Artistic Research
  • Additional language skills

  • List of courses held (incl. evaluations if available)

Payment:

€ 75,000 annual gross salary on a full-time basis (depending on qualifications and work experience)
