3. SARA, THE SOCIETY FOR ARTISTIS RESEARCH ANNOUNCEMENT SERVICE

SAR is now in the final stage before launching SARA, the Society for Artistic Research Announcement Service. SARA will enable individual and institutional members as well as non-members to distribute announcements of relevance to the artistic research environments, such as symposia, conferences, discursive events, exhibitions, publications, events, performances, study programmes and available positions etc. via a dedicated email list, reaching colleagues who have registered at the Research Catalogue (RC). Announcements will be cross-posted on SAR’s social media platforms. A specific template/form on the RC will be available for posting to SARA.

SARA will have a well-targeted and wide reach: There are more than 9000 users on the Research Catalogue; SARA will reach most of these practitioners in the area of artistic research worldwide.

SAR members will pay 50 euro per announcement in the first year. The following years this is 100 euro per announcement. The rate for non-SAR members is in the first year: 100 euro per announcement. The following years this is 200 euro per announcement.

We are just now sorting out if these payments can be handled by a direct banking solution. When all elements are clarified, we will announce SARA through a message to all on the RC mailing list.

4. ART AND RESEARCH FUNDING: EXPERT MEETING OF FUNDING AGENCIES: THE FIRST MEETING OF INTERNATIONAL FUNDING AGENCIES, VIENNA SEPTEMBER 2017

The Society for Artistic Research initiated the first Art and Research Funding: Expert Meeting of Funding Agencies. The meeting took place in mid-September 2017 in Vienna and was locally supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). The FWF is known for its innovative Funding Programme for Arts-based Research PEEK. The aim of this meeting that will be regularly featured by SAR in the future is to bring together agencies active in the field of art and research funding. The first meeting in September was attended by experts from the Austrian Science Fund, the Danish Ministry of Culture, the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research and the Norwegian Artistic Research Programme, the Swedish Research Council, the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic and the Volkswagenstiftung and they engaged in sharing, reflecting and reviewing their funding activities. Each of the institutions presented their funding opportunities and the presentations were followed by vivid discussions.

SAR presented its own activities supporting research with a focus on the Research Catalogue. Especially its function as an online tool for documentation and its reviewing function as it is used by the SAR owned Journal for Artistic Research JAR were highlighted. Additionally, the tool for handling project proposals that has been newly developed together with the Norwegian Artistic Research Programme was introduced. The meeting was accompanied by a side event Projects and Profile curated by FWF to introduce guests to PEEK funded projects, content and people.

SAR wants to thank everybody involved in making this event in both parts possible and such a success. Alexander Damianisch, member of the SAR board, and in charge of planning and convening the event, says: “Those who do it know best how to do it, this is true for Art and Research, this is true for funding. It is important to make this knowing known among the respective community. This was the plan and this is what happened and what will happen in following events. SAR is happy to provide its spirit and tools to make this possible.” A report document is in preparation.

6. ERASMUS+ AND SUPERVISION: Revised Proposal

The Erasmus+ application of ELIA's working group "Artistic Research" about Supervision was not successful. Owing to the fact that the grading of the application review was very good, it was decided that the working group will apply again with a revised version.
