Artists, researchers and practitioners from across the Asia Pacific region are cordially invited to a half-day workshop to establish the Asia Pacific Artistic Research Network, a new initiative from the Centre of Visual Art, University of Melbourne and the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta.

The purposes of the network are to:

  • Map artistic research initiatives and activities in the Asia Pacific region
  • Provide a regional framework for practical collaboration between individuals and institutions
  • Develop an understanding of local cultural dynamics influencing artistic research activities in the Asia Pacific region

Workshop attendees are invited to contribute reports on their activity across one of three areas:

  • Education: New programmes and teaching methods for research-based practice at graduate and undergraduate levels
  • Local Perspectives: Conceptualisations of artistic research built on non-European concepts or practices
  • Research Reports: accounts of activities and programs of artistic research.

Proposals to present should be 200 words with a 100-word bio for each presenter. Presentations should be no more than 10 minutes in length. Please submit your proposal to the convenors by 21st June 2019. Confirmation of your participation will be provided by 1st July 2019. Participants will also be required to register for ICAPAS.

The workshop will develop a research agenda around the interests of participants and develop a structure to guide the network’s future activities.
