Silences and Noises: about the conditions of collaboration in artistic research
Welcome to the post-doc gathering organised by Centre for Artistic Research (CfAR) at Uniarts Helsinki on Wednesday 16.10.2019 at 15:00–18 at the Theatre Academy, Room 535, Staircase C (Haapaniemenkatu 6, Helsinki). This collaboration of artistic research has its origin in praxis, since instead of talking, we – the Silence Ensemble – started to explore the notion of silence through moving, playing, and drawing/videoing. Various views and ways of speaking about silence and artistic research have emerged and intersected through years, and new practical forms of collaboration and conceptual findings have evolved that we will open. Instead of merging with specific common approach, the distinct nature of each member of the ensemble has emerged, and some openings of the pathways taken by each member of the ensemble will be introduced. Some conditions of carrying out research like issues related to profit responsibility, pressure to produce faster and more, as well as competition have become focal issues in our sessions and will be taken into common discussion. Instead of offering answers about how to carry out collaborative artistic research, we invite you to discuss and vision together. Or just to breathe, listen and to get know some colleagues. SILENCE ENSEMBLE: dancer Kirsi Heimonen, artist Petri Kaverma and pianist Anu Vehviläinen
A TOUCH OF THE PAST / MENNEEN KOSKETUS
Welcome to the post-doc gathering organised by Centre for Artistic Research (CfAR) at Uniarts Helsinki on Wednesday 13.11.2019 at 15:00–19:00 at the Theatre Academy, Room 535, Staircase C (Haapaniemenkatu 6, Helsinki). How are we as researchers touched by people from the past, and how could we, in turn, touch our audiences? How to transform a monument into a human being, Jean into Janne? And what if someone from the past sent us a letter, what would we reply? Welcome to discuss these questions in a “salon” of artists and researchers at the Theatre Academy on November 13, 2019. The event is organized in collaboration with the Uniarts Helsinki History Forum and Turku University’s research centre SELMA (Centre for the Study of Storytelling, Experientiality and Memory). The speakers include the music researchers Susanna Välimäki, Anne Kauppala, Ulla-Britta Broman-Kananen and Timo Virtanen, the cultural historian Kirsi Tuohela and CfAR’s postdoctoral researcher Elina Saloranta, who will introduce her historical pen-pal Elli Forssell-Rozent?le (1871–1943). NOTE: This event will be in Finnish.
CfAR Academy-based Research Project 2019-20 starts in October 2019
Following a call in spring 2019, CfAR selected project ‘Phenomenological explorations in artistic research through cases of breath, air and atmosphere focused performance and choreography’ by Dr Kirsi Heimonen and Professor Leena Rouhiainen as the CfAR Academy-based Research Project 2019-20. The project starts in October and lasts 11 months during which Kirsi and Leena will have dedicated time to work on this topic. We will have events and publications arising from this in 2020-21.
