About School of Arts, Design, and Media

With its 1,700 students and 130 academic full-time equivalent positions, the School of Arts, Design and Media is the largest creative and art-related environment at university and college level in Norway.

The subject portfolio includes both creative and performing arts within writing and performing arts, music and music production, film and TV production, communication and various design subjects. The education programmes are characterised by a close relationship with the field of practice (professional and working life), and the knowledge and knowledge production of the subjects is closely related to both research and practice.

About Westerdal's department of film and media

Westerdal's department of film and media consists of around 33 employees, 470 students and offers studies in sound design, screenwriting, film/TV, game design, 3D graphics and VFX. The department is part of the School of Arts, Design, and Media (SADM), which today also includes Westerdal's department of creativity, storytelling and design, department of music, and department of performing arts. Overall, SADM, with its 1,700 students and 130 professional man-years, is the largest creative and artistic environment at university and college level in Norway. SADMs four departments are co-located in new premises at Urtegata 9 and Christian Krohgsgate 32.

About the position

We are seeking a new staff member for 50-100 % position as an Assistant professor in 3D-Graphic at Westerdal's department of film and media. Desired start date is early autumn 2023

 

The bachelor’s program in 3D-Graphics is an artistic and technical education that trains 3D generalists. From a base in modeling and texturing, students follow tracks where they gain experience in animation, real-time 3D graphics for interactive solutions and 3D graphics for images and film. The person we are looking for will join our team of active professionals and dedicated educators on the program. We are looking for a person with good collaborative and communication skills. Kristiania has set goals to be a leading institution in both research and education. The right candidate has an investigative and explorative approach to teaching and research and looks to combine the two in new and innovative ways.

We are looking for a skilled 3D generalist with broad experience from the production of 3D graphics at a professional level. The position includes responsibility for teaching real-time 3D graphics. It is therefore desirable to have experience from game development, interactive solutions, visualizations, or similar, where 3D graphics are the visual means of the real-time solution. Experience in 3D animation and game programming is also desirable.

Applicants should have aesthetic competence in producing 3D graphics for real time, as well as some programming competence. The position also includes responsibility for project and production courses, it is therefore desirable that the candidate has experience with teamwork and project management tools. The position requires proven research and development at a high international level.

  • Plan and carry out teaching with responsibility for courses in real-time graphics courses and production/project management

  • Academic-administrative tasks and meeting activities with academic staff and head of department
  • R&D activity at a high international level within 3D graphics, 3D animation and/or game programming

Teaching at Kristiania University College requires the candidate to speak a Scandinavian language and to be able to teach in English. An exception can be made if the candidate is motivated to develop the skills to conduct lectures in a Scandinavian language within three years.

 

The appointed person must be prepared for organizational and work-related changes. It may be relevant to change work tasks due to future development of study programs at the department.

 Requirements for applicants

  • Higher degree examination at a university, college or equivalent in the subject area
  • Relevant research qualifications beyond master's or master's degree level and/or relevant professional practice
  • Experience from supervision, teaching and/or program management at college and university level
  • Relevant practical experience within the subject area
  • Documented competence in relevant educational theory and practice based on training or on teaching and supervision.

Applicants must document pedagogical and didactic competence related to higher education and basic skills within planning, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision. Applicants who, upon appointment, do does not satisfy the requirements must undertake to complete the college's program for basic pedagogical competence (15 credits) within two years.

Preferred qualifications

  • Very good competence in creating and creative work with 3D graphics and/or 3D animation
  • Experience with game engines such as Unreal and Unity
  • C# coding in Unity and/or Blueprint's experience from Unreal beyond the use of existing templates.
  • Experience with project development in teams and use of SCRUM, etc.
  • Good communication skills, both internally with students, colleagues and externally
  • You are interested in developments in the media market, in various forms of production and distribution and have extensive professional experience.
  • You enjoy using technology and like to explore, experiment and see new solutions

  • Full documentation/text of up to 5 selected artistic research projects and/or publications the applicant wishes to include in the evaluation.
  • Desired but not a requirement, a teaching portfolio demonstrating the applicant's qualifications and focus on students learning, and research attitude towards teaching and learning. In cases where there is no teaching competence, a reflection note is requested that shows the applicant's vision for the education in the subject area as well as reflection on their own motivation for teaching and guidance.
  • Names and contact details of 2-3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail, and telephone number).

 

 

Qualified applicants must be prepared to hold a teaching class/trial lecture in the relevant subject area.

The applicant's competence will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee will deal exclusively with the application and the documentation that accompanies the application and has been submitted by the application deadline. After the expert committee has issued its opinion, Kristiania University College's selection committee will make an assessment of the applicants that the committee has found to be the most professionally qualified.

 

If you do not satisfy key parts of the competence requirements, you can have your application rejected before applications are sent to the expert committee for assessment.

 

The recruitment committee must invite applicants to an interview and to any relevant trial teaching. It must also be possible to conduct reference interviews. The recruitment committee at Kristiania University College makes recommendations after an overall assessment of the applicants' professional competence and personal suitability.
