SYMPOSIUM: THINKING WITH THE BODY - OVERCOMING METHODOLOGICAL BOUNDARIES

The artistic research project Embodying Expression, Gender, Charisma Breaking Boundaries of Classical Instrumental Practices (FWF AR 749 G) and the Interdisciplinary Research Network Implicit Knowledge (FORIM) cordially invite you to the symposium on 19 and 20 September 2024, at Bruckner University, Linz, Austria:

THINKING WITH THE BODY – OVERCOMING METHODOLOGICAL BOUNDARIES

with keynote speaker percussionist and artistic researcher Jennifer Torrence, artist in residence composer and artistic reseacher Deok-Vin Lee, and many other renowned artists and presenters.

The following questions are at the focus of our attention:

How do we use the body as a source of knowledge and as a way of thinking, and how do we make this implicit knowlegde accessible and shareable?
How can 'embodiment' be defined and represented conceptually, theoretically or artistically?
What does the concept of 'body' imply for theories of implicit knowledge?

We offer a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives and a range of presentation formats including talks, concerts, lecture recitals, and interactive performances.  These draw on disciplines such as artistic research, philosophy, the social sciences, psychology, educational science and others.

We hope to see you in Linz!
