Perception and (Re)Action

The Doctoral School of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in collaboration with the doctoral schools of HDK-Valand Academy of Art and Design, University of Gothenburg Sweden and Szkoły Doktorskiej Akademia Sztuk Pięknych im. Jana Matejki w Krakowie is happy to announce their common publication: Perception and (Re)Action.

The artist's book, a special edition in both design and format (designer: Zoltán Visnyai), is the result of a one-week intensive research and study program conducted in May 2023 in Budapest by the three institutions within the framework of an Erasmus+BIP (Blended Intensive Program).

The primary inquiries that were addressed during the study week were as follows: What are the potential methodological connections between background research in the arts and its influence on the socio-political imaginary? Additionally, how can significant contemporary issues, including the Anthropocene, ecological equilibrium, and the global rise of authoritarian political systems, be approached from the evolving positions of artistic perspectives and strategies? The publication comprises 24 card-format reproductions of the works and concepts created by the doctoral art students during the week.

Perception and (Re)Action comprises card-format reproductions of the works created by the doctoral art students during the week.

The accompanying booklet contains an introductory text by Szabolcs KissPál and Tünde Varga (Perception and (Re)Action and a concise analysis of the study week, examined through the lens of art research methodology by Henk Slager (Future Methodologies) and Mick Wilson (Meeting in Real Life). Additionally, it includes a visual essay by Bogdan Achimescu (No Ideas But in Things).
