Call for Applications for the Doctoral Programme in Artistic Research (PhD); starting in Winter Semester 2025/26

The Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna (MUK) invites potential candidates to apply for the postgraduate Doctoral Programme in Artistic Research (PhD, 6 semesters, German/English). The Doctoral Programme at the MUK adheres to the tradition of artistic research that understands knowledge generation as the result of investigative artistic-scholarly processes, while requiring theoretical embedding, a systematic and comprehensible methodological procedure, as well as dissemination of the research results.

Individual doctoral projects can focus on the following six research fields:

- Contemporary theatre
- Interpretation research
- Composition/Music theory
- Arts and cultural education
- Performance Art
- Contemporary dance

For PhD projects that require or substantially benefit from interdisciplinary supervision, it is possible to engage supervisors from different research areas.

The applicant must submit the application documents in German or English exclusively via the campus management system MUKonline (online.muk.ac.at) by 30 April 2025. The admission examination is scheduled to take place between 02 and 13 June 2025.
