The 16th  SAR International Conference on Artistic Research will take place from 7 to 9 May 2025 at the University of Porto, Portugal.

 

SAR and i2ADS – University of Porto invite you to a three-day in-person conference in Porto, Portugal, to share and discuss how artistic research can resonate beyond its specific contexts and disciplinary borders with over 50 presentations of artistic research on this years’ theme, RESONANCE.

We are delighted to announce that the 16th SAR Conference will include a Poster Session on artistic research.

With this format, we wish to widen the debate opened by the conference theme and engage all participants and the SAR community in face-to-face conversations around planned, ongoing or concluded artistic research projects.

The posters will be exhibited during the 16th SAR Conference at the University of Porto, with a dedicated in-person session. It is required to be present for questions and contributions.

The JAR Network section, reflections and reviews on Artistic Research

The Journal for Artistic Research (JAR) is an international, online, open-access and peer-reviewed journal that disseminates artistic research from all disciplines. In its peer-reviewed section, it seeks to promote expositions, which aim to engage practice and demonstrate research.

In addition to this, the Network section is a non-peer-reviewed space on the JAR website for discussion, reviews and opinion pieces relevant to artistic research and JAR’s community. It features reflections and book reviews.

Submissions to the JAR Network section can be made at any time by sending a draft or final version of the contribution to Barnaby Drabble, the journal’s managing editor – man.ed@jar-online.net . The suitability of these for publication is discussed on a monthly basis by the editorial board and acceptance may be conditional on editorial changes that they propose.

JAR Submission Webinar - 07.03.2025

Jar webinar

 

This webinar will present an overview of the JAR submission process. Participants will gain further insights into the requirements, editorial workflows and the peer review process. It is aimed at artists and researchers who plan to submit to JAR and those who are interested in learning more about the practical details of running an artistic research journal. While individual submissions cannot be discussed, there will be ample time to raise questions with editors. The webinar will be held in English; non-English webinars are planned for the future.

Portal Partners’ Thematic Seminars

Monday 24.02 – 13:00-15:00 CET

 

RC for Teaching, Learning and Examination Purposes

 

All portal partners have the option to operate both a public and an internal portal on the RC. In this seminar we will present how some of our portal partners use the internal portal for teaching, learning and examination purposes, how expositions can be used for presenting outcomes of such activities to the international artistic research environment as well as how these activities can be managed by your local portal admin – including options for archiving of expositions delivered for examination purposes. There will be inputs from NMH-Norwegian Academy of Music and Fontys Academy of the Arts among others.
