EARTHBOUND Symposium 2025

“Soil and Water – The Sensuous Fundaments for Life”  

19 – 21 August 2025  

The performance theatre Secret Hotel presents EARTHBOUND 2025 – an interdisciplinary symposium that weaves together art and science to reimagine how we human beings relate to the world.   

This year, we investigate the alchemy of soil and water. In the face of climate emergency, we create an immersive framework to co-explore and co-reflect on our sensuous and deep-rooted relationships with these ancient elements. We bring together artists, activists and researchers of various backgrounds: Those who care and those who dare.  

We’re excited to present an inspiring line-up of keynotes, workshops, debates, performance excerpts, staged dinners, rituals and sharing sessions.   

  

INVITED SPEAKERS  

Minna Salami (FI/NG/SE): Author of "Sensuous Knowledge: A Black Feminist Approach for Everyone" and the award-winning blog MsAfropolitan. Senior fellow and research chair at THE NEW INSTITUTE. Minna Salami is a specialist within Black Feminism, speculative imagination and sensuous knowledge production, and her writing features in The Guardian, Project Syndicate, and The Philosopher. Charlotte Du Cann (UK): As a writer, editor and co-director of the influential Dark Mountain Project, Charlotte Du Cann reflects on a world in turmoil and the ways we can face collapse. Known for titles such as “52 Flowers That Shook My World" (2012) and “After Ithaca” (2022), she explores mythology and the beauty of relationships with time, creatures and plants. Read more. 

Venus Jasper (NL): Queer visual artist, storyteller, world builder and singer-priestess. With works such as “EARTHSHRINE - Sensing Sacred Soils” (2022) and “OAKBaLLZ and EELSkin” (2023), Venus Jasper explores their own relation to sacred swamps, ancestry, and trauma. Read more.

You can buy a ticket for the full 3-days experience, but it’s also possible to choose between attending the symposium only at Himmelbjerggården (2 days) or Moesgaard Campus (1 day). We recommend participating all three days, as well as booking accomodation at Himmelbjerggården to get the full communal experience.  

We offer reduced prices for participants without institutional affiliation / with reduced financial means.   

  

ACCOMODATION  

You can book your accomodation at Himmelbjerggården, or you can book your accomodation in Aarhus and use the free shuttle bus. We will arrange a shuttle bus between Aarhus and Himmelbjerggården every morning and evening on 19th and 20th of August. We will share the exact time schedule for the shuttle bus in the weeks before EARTHBOUND.
