INSERT #8 Transforming the Anthropo(s)cene

Edited by Dorota Sajewska and Julia Schade

The new issue of INSERT introduces the concept of the Anthropo(s)cene as a critical reconfiguration of dominant Anthropocene discourse, which often re-essentialises a universalised figure of anthropos, thereby obscuring historical and ongoing forms of colonial dispossession and environmental injustice. Drawing on feminist, decolonial, and new materialist perspectives, the issue proposes a shift from subject-centred agency to relational, planetary configurations of action. By focusing on contemporary performative practices, the authors frame the Anthropo(s)cene as a critical space for ontological openness, enabling alternative understandings of humanity beyond universalist and anthropocentric paradigms. With contributions by Dorota Sajewska/Julia Schade, Selma Selman, Friederike Nastold, MaƂgorzata Sugiera, Mateusz Chaberski, Mateusz Borowski, Dorota Sosnowska, Fabienne Liptay, Jörn Etzold, Leon Gabriel, Julia Schade, Amanda Piña, Friederike Nastold.
