Painting at Espedalen, 2011

Espedalen

I continued to experiment with different ways of painting from fixed positions outside. In the work From the house corner I attached boards to the outside walls of my parents cabin in Espedalen and used this as a fixed observational position of the surrounding landscape. The paintings could be left hanging, which meant I could return and rework the motif over time. In this way, the paintings themselves became participant observers in the landscape; shifting their appearance during the course of the day. The trees offered a way to continually reframe the landscape and divide the painting into separate zones of attention.
