This type of (free improvisation) in which the player's imagination is unlimited, as it is driven by the inspiration of her/his temperament and sense of the psychological atmosphere influenced by the position she/he draws from it, and the reality is that these divisions, with all their absolute freedoms, represent the player's highest technical prowess (in playing her/his instrument).

Because of her/his theoretical knowledge, the performer is required to create melodic sentences in which she/he acts by wandering from one maqam to another with interesting and innovative transformations, homogeneous or contrasting with their artistic character, and he demands that after his journey through the maqamat he return to the original place a convincing and woven return, for the artist plays the free division into traditions that draw His performance frame, and he is guided by the taste of his generation and era in his improvised actions.

Taqsim is not only showing what is new to the listener, but this new is even new to the player themselves, and perhaps the most important thing in improvisation is the absence of known stereotypical sentences.

The most popular Taqsim instruments are the oud, along with the violin, nay, and Qanun. Arabized instruments like the accordion can also be used for a Taqsim.

Taqsim is one of the improvised forms of Arabic classical music and is the most immediate platform for an instrumentalist to interact with their listeners whilst experimenting and playing with the maqam and it is a composition guided by a traditional framework that is improvised (often) and is one of the forms of oriental music, if not the most important and the most difficult.

The importance of this form stems from the fact that it depends on the musician's stock and heritage, in addition to her/his reliance on the huge amount of musical phrases preserved in her/his memory, his/her familiarity with the knowledge of the maqam and his understanding of its subtle parts, and the specificity of each maqam on its own.

The Taqsim contains all forms of techniques that the player performs, including the rhythmic forms.
