A map into the process of making 3d characters and worlds

PS: I reccomend zooming in/out of the browser when inspecting the page to see the larger picture

PS!!!!!: Hover over the images to read my thoughts about them

The concept for the futuristic real world starts here

Wow, if you scroll any further down you will enter the REAL WORLD...

follow where the images go, watch as the characters are brought to life!

And the environments are filled with atmosphere!

At the top of this page you will follow the progress of the digital world.

closer to the bottom of this page you will find yourself in the "real" world.

A not so chronogical, but organized and visually engaging look into my art process  (compared to the diary)

I thought it necessary to have this page to show recorded footage and gifs, to show the interactivity of the process

This is where the journey started

I made the clothes for this character by using cloth simulations. I had to experiment a lot before finding the right settings.

My first ideas for the sci fi world started with the occasional studies I have made when painting nature landscapes. By bringing my Ipad into the forest.

Wow, if you scroll any further down you will enter the REAL WORLD...

The shoes were made too look like they are durable in any weather, prefferably rain and snow.

These were the first concept art I made for the futuristic sci fi world.

These drawings where what  became the characters in the digital world.

The storyboard frames I made were useful. I took direct inspiration from them when making the final concept art for the world.

The Server Operator is the character we see exploring the scifi landscape in the film

I decided it was best to gives this character a mask. This way I would not have to struggle with making realistic facial animations.

As well the mask unifies this character with the ones we see in the digital world.

The characters are taking shape in 3D.

Seeing elements of the digital world inside the screen.

Gives a clear signal that this is somewhere different.

When I imported the first animations for Sabi we realized there was a few things we had to fix.....

The robocat is a creature in the film.

Its design inspired the final design for the giant beast.

These drawings where what  became the characters in the digital world.

It gives the feeling of wandering in an overgrown world where nature and technology has found a weird balance.

At first I wanted the scene by the lake to have a cold wintery feeling.

But since I ran out of time I didnt manage to add snow in the scene.

This is an example of voxel modelling. Its as easy as playing with lego. I focus on making simple and recognisable shapes.

Voxel modelling can very easily allow users to interact and create the ideas in their head.

The buildings I made for the real world was built from the 3D scanned Quixel Assets that is provided for free in Unreal Engine

In the end the real world got a more unified and warm look.

Using very earthy colours.

The first concept for the beast.

It still had blocky legs.

And shaped more like a turtle

The final look for this area of the digital world.

Nature has overgrown giant structures.

The colour scheme is fresh and minty.

The digital parrerns of pixels can be seen on the ground and on the structures.

Even the leaves on the trees and the grass is squared like a pixel.

The dimensional craft / The beast,

is a giant sentient "aircraft" that transports the Traveller and Sabi into different worlds

This is how the Beast appears in the final film. I removed the colours to make it fit into the black and white environment more.

The ideas for this digital universe still develop.

This is a new concept for a blissfull but mysterious part of the digital landscape.
