Culemborg

September - oktober 2020

a site specific work

An old factory, that now is being used by artists to exhibit.

the idea to bring movement as my starting point,

a manner to guide our eye, a rythmic play that navigates you through the space.

New questions appeared

What impact does this intent to give?

Can it become something, if I emphisize on it more,

to make the building come alive?

Liveness matters on the fact that we are there, together in that time and space. an act of surrealism will trigger our imagination. and maybe create a certain bond, your own mark in memory.

The performativity of activating a space

you can start playing the 3 video's at same time :

an idea of atmospherics and space

With all it's authentacy, marks and traces,

I've been wandering about how to find a way to use the space as it is.

EMBRACING WHAT'S ALREADY THERE

and making replica's of it on a second layer "I'm dressing the space with it's own marks"

The installation became almost invisible, It started by the main diagonal in the space. I was rolling the canvas on a spinning wheel, the marks were shifting very slowly. Chairs were positioned next to it, I hoped that this was an invitation to spend some time watching it shift.

90 meters of painting reality, spending time there makes me wonder how the installation will react on the sound from the environment. The buidling starts to shake when there is packtrain, which you feel enourmously because it's a big contrast with the normal train passing every 5 minutes.
