Two panel discussions were made open to the public on Friday 26th and Saturday, 27th November, in the Salle Stravinsky, IRCAM. Both events were open for physical presence as well as being streamed in real-time on IRCAM's YouTube channel. The videos were later made available on YouTube and linked to here.

The allure of sonic space

Technological panel discussion focused on sound spatialisation technologies used in the project.

  • Respondents : Aaron Einbond (City University of London), Pierre Massé et Olivier Warusfel (researchers IRCAM-STMS, Acoustic and Cognitive Spaces team)

 

This panel leaned towards technical ideas where the three presenters explained how they explored the interplay between the physical and perceptual aspects of sonic space in their respective artistic and research work. The panel discussion included topics such as the use of impulse responses to reveal spatial structures, the analysis of ambisonics recordings to explore spatial features, the link between space and spectrum, and general thoughts on representation, interpretation, identity and engagement.

Panel discussion on the relationships among landscape, environment, and sonic arts.

  • Presenters: Natasha Barrett, Andrew Knight-Hill, Nadine Schütz
  • Respondents : Valérian Fraisse, Nicolas Misdariis and Olivier Warusfel (researchers IRCAM-STMS, Acoustic and Cognitive Spaces and Perception and Sound Design teams)


This panel leaned towards arts and design where the three presenters discussed the many challenges involved in public-space sound-art beyond the immediate impact of the sound. Topics included how they tackle these challenges in their work by exploring scales of time and space, seasons and meteorological conditions, the evolving state of the site, and the social and technical implications of sonically intervening in a public space.
