PLAYBACK TECHNOLOGY

The installation is played over eight all-weather loudspeakers and a special prototype loudspeaker.

Eight all-weather small loudspeakers.

The weatherproof version of the 170 beam-forming loudspeaker.

The 170 beam-forming loudspeaker is a prototype speaker developed in collaboration with the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics (IEM) in Graz. The speaker employs a technology that projects controlled beams of sound. When the beam is pointing away from you, you hear the acoustic reflections from the walls and floor. When the beam is directed towards you, you hear the direct sound. The speaker highlights the geometry and materials of the space.

During the Reconfiguring the Landscape project, three of these were made: two are for indoor use or outdoors in fine weather. One of these resides in Graz, the other in Oslo. The third is waterproof and designed for outdoor use.
