THE CREATION OF AN

IMMERSIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCE

How can immersive performance concepts be used

to create a better connection between a musician and his audience?

In this research, percussionist/composer/curator Jonathan Bonny describes the creation of his immersive contemporary music performance 'IN'. After having investigated the possibilities, motives and risks of immersive concerts, he explores the limits of immersion. His aim is to make both the audience and the performer forget about any traditional concert situation in a way that creates the best possible environment for the particular music that is played. By doing that he tries to decrease the distance between performer and audience. With this paper he starts building his own unique performing identity and he hopes to inspire other musicians to do so as well.
