Catalogue for negotiating artistic authority

This is part of the products of the research - to provide such a catalogue. It presents a structured approach, coming from my research, to the intricate processes and relationships in music production. It represents both my professional methodology and a profound grasp of the deeply personal dynamics in musical co-creation.

Trust in the artist-producer relationship: Trust is the bedrock of fruitful collaboration. It's built by consistently keeping one's word and intimately understanding your collaborator, assuring them that their aspirations and perhaps even secrets are safe.

Roles and responsibilities: My research emphasizes defining roles early on but allowing them to evolve organically, opening doors to unexpected creative avenues.

Artistic self-understanding: Supporting an artist's self-awareness is paramount to keeping the music genuine. My duty as a producer is to help artists resonate with their authentic voices, leading to more heartfelt and effective work.

Communication: Transparent and respectful dialogue is vital. It establishes a nurturing environment where ideas can be collectively explored and refined.

Conflict management: Handling conflicts proactively and striking compromises is central to a smooth creative collaboration. Addressing issues constructively keeps the focus on the music.

Absence of criticism in the creation process: An environment free from premature criticism fosters growth and innovation. I ensure this space of non-judgment until the art is mature enough for constructive critique, recognizing its potential to enhance both the process and final product.

The role of technology: Technology is a powerful enabler of artistic visions. While I'm open to innovations, I prioritize technology that elevates quality or simplifies processes rather than chasing novelty for its own sake.

Cultural sensitivity: Respecting and understanding the cultural nuances of the music genres ensures authentic and respectful output.

Completion of the project: It's essential to have a finished master (final music product) and to evaluate the project's success metrics. My role as a producer extends to the very end, providing closure and making sure the project is ultimately as ‘good’ as it can be with the resources available and with the path travelled.
