In his final work, "Blue" (1993), Derek Jarman employs a single colour as the film's visual dramaturgical thread: International Klein Blue (IKB) #002FA7. This particular shade of blue appears rarely in Jarman's oeuvre, and when it does, it carries profound significance: "Blue transcends the limits of human geography." The colour represents a threshold to an existence beyond the boundaries of perceived reality. This resonance deepened as Jarman, in the advanced stages of AIDS-related illness toward the end of his life, gradually lost his sight. Blue was the last colour he could perceive.

"Blue" staged the landscape of Jarman's final afternoons, and its rhythm—manifested through text and colour—wove itself into our spatial and textual explorations.
