Graphical field research in the context of a biological study on the feeding ecology of Eurasian Buzzards, National Park Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer, Norderney, Germany, 2013 In cooperation with Felix Steinmeyer, University of Göttingen Based on the same subject of investigation, I did my own research to produce a direct comparison of scientific and artistic approaches. The biologist selected observation points where we spent 6 hours each. In his field of vision, he set a range, the so-called "sample space". Only there he could register Buzzard activities. On a predefined table, he had possible entries, such as "duration of stay" and "altitude". I have recorded the sightings in gestural notes. My sample space was in a sense a blank sheet of paper, where there were no predefined instructions and I reacted individually to the particular shapes and movements of each sighting. Afterwards, the biologist made a statistical evaluation of his data and drew general conclusions about the behavior of buzzards. In contrast, my results remained in the material itself and are intended to complement the scientific results with an openly subjective component.
