The essayist to the reader
If essaying is personal, how personal? What personal? It's important to find a framework for how to use the persal as an archive for art and research, for essaying.
Because of this persnal positioning I started to get back in touch with my past, quite literally. I started contacting soe people from the past, my first two boyfriends, my ex stephfather. And started going through the old pictures and documents of my past, but also my grand aunts past. I saw the old phychology reports, love letters, hate letters, dream books and class repots, all the schools OI went too. I did not have the smoothest of educational carreers, looking back drawing lies to my current position, it does make sense.
Its scary and vulnarable maig this mapping, but it also feels like uncovering connections that I was neer aware were there.
As I metioned in my PD proposal:
Researching the position of the self through a heritage and personal perspective, specifically focusing on privilege, unconscious bias, and assumptions. For instance, the interaction of family, personal experiences and socio-economic background, and your role as artistic researcher and essayist.
As I mentioned in my LKCA Article:
Door persoonlijke expertise naast de anderen te leggen kunnen ze interactie aangaan met het gekozen onderwerp of een relatie bloot leggen. In het professioneel handelen en in praktijk- of wetenschappelijk onderzoek wordt het persoonlijke perspectief juist geweerd. Essayeren is een manier om je bewust worden van eventuele invloeden van achtergrond en persoonlijke ervaringen je onderwerp. Je zou kunnen zeggen dat het een manier is om inzichten te krijgen in onbewuste motivaties en voorkeuren, aannames en vooroordelen. De persoonlijke referenties bieden vaak ook ruimte voor anderen, zonder gespecialiseerde kennis, te begrijpen wat je verbinding met het onderwerp is.

making it personal is taking off the safetybelts
You know volvo placed safety seatbelts before its was legally requied (1959), seatbelts only got obligated by law in the Netherlands in 1973. Paradoxally speaking, this means I can now take the seatbelts out because they were placed before legal requirements. The safest car can now take the safety away.
