ABSTRACT

Research question

The recent researches made on the musical life of Barcelona during the 18th century and the appearance of more original instruments give us the opportunity to understand how the bassoon was conceived in Catalunya and the role it had in its musical development.

When were this instruments made? By whom? For what purpose? Which repertoire could have been played with them? Do they share any common characteristics? How are these linked to their function in the music of that time?

This research will focus on the currently existing witnesses of the second half of the 18th century concerning the bassoon making, the musical context in which the instruments were made and the coexistence with the dulcian. It will also have a taxonomical study of the preserved instruments. Furthermore, this data will be put together with repertoire written in the studied period.
