Højskolesangbogen
Last year, I put Højskolesangbogen in my bathroom, and for 572 visits to the toilet, I’ve been singing my way through the book. I finished it last week, and thinking about what to sing next. I would like to get the equivalent of højskolesangbogen from other countries, as a way of getting into other traditions. This mindset relates to the local expedition. I’m thinking of getting a book of Georgian traditional songs next.
Last week, I learned that the mother of my friend Emilie is one of the few people in Denmark that sing traditional calls sung in solitude in the fields and meadows while looking out for cattle. Some of these melodies don’t sound like typical scandinavian folk music to me, and I find this interesting.
