Method
The question I'm going to try to answer in this thesis is as follows: How can I approach the upright bass as a chord instrument utilizing the harmonic spectrum of overtones in conjunction with traditional pizzicato playing, and how will my work affect me as a musician overall?
The method I have chosen to answer this question will be based on composing, playing the bass solo as well as in ensembles, praciting and researching different techniques that might help me incorporate the harmonic spectrum of overtones, and finally reflecting on my growth as a musician throughout the two years I will spend writing this thesis.
The method will be based on what I would like to call "experimental exploring", with which I mean "to field test my discoveries as I practice and develop my skillset (regarding utilizing the harmonic spectrum, as mentioned before) as a bass player.
