Higher 2.0.

In October 2019 I started to adapt Higher to a Black-box version. In finding how I could create the same feelings and atmosphere in a theatre space.

Higher

Higher is a performance about the absurdity of a space.

A story about a man, a suitcase and a ladder.

Higher was presented as a result of the first year master Scenography of HKU 2019. Part of Exploration-exhibition in the Gelderlandfabriek, Culemborg.

In Higher the space becomes an absurd universe in which a man starts discovering the space and tries to get higher. A man enters the space with his suitcase and ladder.

An adaptation ot the old silent films to a contemporary performative time.

The inspirations for this piece came from the space itself and the pre-works/experiments of steps, ladders and silent films.

In Higher the spectator gor embedded in the space. They were invited to sit with 6-8 people on a bench in the space. The performence started by knocking on the metal door behind which I was hidden. I discovered the space, brought in my material, hung a light, watched the trains and left the space in the same conditions.

In this work I was working on my physical exhaution and what the boundaries of my body were: how long can I hang from the roof, how mant times can I do the same piece without looking exhausted..
