DATA OCEAN THEATRE

Prologue/Simultaneous Environments

II. Ἀμφιτρίτη (Amphitrite)

Masks/Selfies/GIFs/Vocalizations scores

In Greek mythology, Amphitrite, an Aeneid and daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, stood as Poseidon's wife and sovereign of the seas. Despite her prominence, she remains overshadowed by her husband in myth and tragedy. Hence, she is chosen as the inaugural figure and guardian of the Data Ocean Theatre project, aiming to rectify this neglect. The project starts addressing this imbalance, through the making of three masks crafted from digitally altered waves crashing against cliffs. These 'datascape-headpieces', and their variation in size, are put into play in different scenes, worn or immersed in the sea, and then shared as selfies or gifs on Social Media Networks in the time of Covid19 pandemic.
