Six pieces of ship debris are discovered and collected at low tide in the rocks of a cliff on the Atlantic Basque coast. They are then reassembled on the floor of the exhibition space to form a kind of bird on top of a glass sheet. The metal remains are sprinkled with cinnamon powder. Legend has it that the phoenix bird built its nest with cinnamon sticks before setting fire to it and self-immolating. Cinnamon was used by prop masters and stagehands to make faux rusty objects for theatre and opera stages.
