Prologue/Simultaneous Environments

VI. All the Seas the Sea

In collaboration with Laurent Joly, Sophie Rodrigues (Actors-France)
(Film, colour, sound, 6')

On the rocky shores of Suomenlinna, two actors dressed in period costumes emphatically recite selected excerpts from Western plays with the sea as the theme and/or backdrop (1). Their voices, captured live, are partially covered by the simultaneous ambient sounds of the sea, wind, and other more-than-human presences of the island environment. Framed in the style of 19th-century romantic paintings, the actors, equipped with memory-aid digital tablets on lazy neck holders, perform, accompanied by the murmur of underwater life recorded with a hydrophone.
