Installation, Performance, Film (colour, soundless, 2')

In Greek mythology, 'psamides' refers to the Nereids of sand, strands, and beaches, who safeguard and cherish these coastal realms. The psamides consist of three sister deities: Psamathe, Actaea, and Eione. Psamathe, the goddess of sand, possesses the unique ability to shape-shift into a seal. Actaea embodies the rocky shores and coastline, while Eione is the sprite of fine sand beaches.

Using sea glass collected from various shores, including those of Suomenlinna during walks with Vincent, Océane Bruel crafts a series of speculative ritual objects dedicated to the three psamides. With technical assistance from glass artist and HIAP-Helsinki studios neighbor Anna Schroderus, Océane melts the sea glass and molds it into containers of different sizes, intended for contemporary ceremonies honoring the return of all waters to the sea.

During a seaside gathering held throughout the exhibition, these objects are passed among participants, who fill them with residual waters from natural pools along rocky shores before returning them to the sea. Additionally, a color inventory database derived from the sea glass collection is translated into a series of CAD color palettes, one of which, square in shape, is then printed on a white silk handkerchief.
