Jules Paul Benjamin Delessert was a French banker and naturalist. He was an honorary member of the Académie des Sciences and many species were named from his natural history collections. In particular, he owned the main collections published in the form of a hybrid publication between printed book and dry herbarium, which had existed since the 18th century and enjoyed a revival in the 19th century, particularly in the field of cryptogram plants (mosses and algae). Delessert was a close friend of botanist Jean Vincent Félix Lamouroux. The latter dedicated a species of algae to him, giving it his name: Delesseria Plocamium.
