Staging the Pottery

In our post-industrial world the factory still holds a central position, albeit outside its original walls. It has gradually removed itself from being a physical object (like the pottery) while society at large has adopted many of its aspects. Today's so-called "production- and consumers society" is greatly inspired by the ideas of the factory and reflected in contemporary art as themes, processes, mediums and aesthetics.

"Staging the Pottery" is an essay written after visiting Stoke-on-Trent and the original Spode factory site.
