Society for Artistic Research

SAR Newsletter December 2024

SAR wishes its community happy holidays!

As the year comes to a close, we wish to extend our warmest wishes to all of you, our valued community. At SAR, our strength lies in the community's diversity and openness — principles that guide our mission to connect, facilitate, and advocate for artistic research across disciplines and borders.

Whether through engaging in annual conferences and forums, RC expositions, JAR contributions, or peer exchanges, each of you contribute to a thriving community that nurtures creativity and knowledge in all its forms. Thank you for your participation in the different ways we have come together this year to collaborate, share, and innovate.

As we look to the coming year, we remain committed to supporting artistic research within and beyond institutions, fostering dialogue, and addressing the societal challenges that impact us all.

We are excited to continue this journey with you in 2025!

First Core Group meeting for the COST Action Artistic Intelligence.

Earlier this December, the CORE group of the Artistic Intelligence – Responsiveness, Accessibility, Responsibility, Equity (ARTinRARE) COST Action held its inaugural meeting in Vienna. This marked the official launch of the Action’s collaborative efforts to advance the integration of artistic research with traditional inquiry methods, leveraging new computational techniques like ML/AI to enhance cross-disciplinary knowledge production.

By establishing frameworks and networks, the Action seeks to improve the discoverability, transferability, and societal impact of artistic and practice-based research.

The overwhelming interest in the project was evident, with nearly 200 applications submitted to participate in the four working groups. This enthusiastic response underscores the relevance and urgency to enhance knowledge production through artistic research and intelligence.

We look forward to sharing the contributions and innovations that will emerge with you.
