Added a funnel for easier water refill, so the bottle cap does not have to be removed.

first attempt with yellow lichen sourced from bark. nutrition will be distilled water and xylitol. {date: 210310}

contruction to automatise irrigation. video is with distilled water. formula will be to add xylitol and spirulina, and to run this perhaps twice a day with a timer. {date: 210401}

Processes

Formula 29 (Magnificent Lichen Growth Formula)

Mix the following together and bring to a boil stirring frequently:
  • 1 pint milk
  • 1 teaspoon flour
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon gelatin
  • 1 tablespoon green algae powder (Spirulina or chlorella may be obtained from the vitamin department at some grocery stores. Pet stores may carry fish food that is mostly algae.)
  • 1/16 teaspoon water soluble fertilizer with micronutrients (bloom boosting formula preferred, such as 15-30-15 or similar, NOT acid loving formula.)
Remove from heat as soon as boiling commences, and cool to room temperature. The formula may be stored a few days in the refrigerator.

Immediately prior to application, add:

  • 2 teaspoons of lichen flakes collected from common lichens growing in a similar microenvironment to where the new lichens are wanted.
  • 2 teaspoons of healthy soil collected from an area near where lichens are currently growing.
Shake or stir well.

Use a paintbrush to apply this solution to the areas where you would like new lichens to grow. Apply as soon as practical after making the formula since this is a living, very bioactive mixture. For best results do not apply during a rain storm, or when rain is expected within a day.”

installed a good quality cam for the Pi and calibrated the position. tricky to set the raspistill shutter speed without automatic lightening measurement. let's hope the date-time is always picked up from the wifi if I leave that on. The I2C that would hold the RTC is blocked by the servo board.

A circle-hough-transform plugin for ImageJ detects the circular markers. I should put them directly on the glass slide, so that if the slide or the box it rests on move, the image cropping can still be correctly performed.

maintenance day - water bottle needs refill, and the paper markers are increasingly wrinkled from receiving drops over and over again, especially the top right mark, which caused a failure in detection yesterday or the day before yesterday. I replace them with fresh markers that are now laminated. Hopefully this doesn't cause too much shift in detection perspective from yesterday to today. I also began scraping off more yellow lichen fragments from a fallen branch I had collected a while ago. Will add them slowly not to cause a massive change at once in the image.

version 2 of markers is to just have circles and attach them to the glass pane, so that the box can be moved itself. As can be seen, there is a too high concentration of spirulina in the formula now, it also starts to clot the spray nozzle. Hopefully can be cleaned.

red/cyan anaglyph, less impressive but you don't damage your eye sockets. software

the “low frequency” changes of repeated nutrition spells, visible below in the new blue-green fond, are processed in the stereoscopic vision as “metallic” surface, as different ways the light reflects depending on the angle. Pictures are taken one month apart. The top right corner circle marker paper is increasingly changing, as it is the only one apparently that is hit by the water again and again. Nevertheless, it does not seem to have a huge impact on the ability to form a stereo image. {date: 210528}
