The research process for Dorsal Practices has unfolded through a series of distinct phases: (Part 1) A framed exploratory period for engaging experimentally with a specific dimension or thematic related to dorsality e.g. Lying down, Walking backwards; (Part 2) A conversation practice in touch with the experience of live exploration; (Part 3) Transcription of the conversation recording, which is then distilled through a process of highlighting / marking; (Part 4) Re-animation/re-activation of the distilled transcript material through various improvisatory reading practices; (Part 5) Etymological exploration of key words emerging within the transcript distillations.
The research artefacts (presented here) have been generated as by-products of this process of enquiry, but which might none-the-less somehow distill or gather a sense of an emergent language for attending to dorsality, a language perhaps even emerging with and through a process of dorsal voicing.
