“WITHDRAWING THE PERFORMER” was conceptualized and conducted collaboratively by Charlotta Ruth (SE/AT) and Jasmin Schaitl (AT/CZ).
The research focused on the facilitator role and the creation of immaterial material. How a facilitator creates a frame for participants and visitors to interact, create and develop experiences.
The project researched methods of facilitating, sharing, and inviting participation within performative settings. It focused on participatory sense-making as a practical and theoretical area of research to map and develop artistic tools, facilitator methods, neuroscientific perspectives as well as contextual and pedagogical approaches for reducing thresholds for entering participation.
The practice based part invited Anne Juren, Christian Schröder, Dennis Johnson, Krōōt Juurak, Mariella Greil and Philipp Ehmann to share their participatory practice and approach to facilitation inside 2 one-week long laboratories in May & June 2022. Focusing on four different sub-questions (1) Non-Comfort Zones, (2) Drifting, (3) Non-Trivial Effort, (4) Generative Gaps, the practice based research continued through a 4 Saturday public series in October - November 2022 where the practices were shared in the frame of APL Angewandte Performance Laboratory.
The participatory processes were reflected upon in collaboration with neuroscientist Imani Rameses and documented through drawing by Verena Frauenlob.
