Sibilla of Lozio is a hybrid and multidisciplinary work concepted, by Athanasios Aléxo.

It is structured on several levels of interpretation and composition in order to investigate the invisible characteristics of Lozio, Italy. And gives the opportunity to anyone to watch it anytime. The project is thus composed of an active archive of the place, created day by day during his stay.

At the end we connect her with

her heart”, earthquakes data from a local seismograph.

That data changes the level of exposure of the video in real time.

The project is thus composed of an active archive of the place, created day by day during his stay.

In this sense, his careful and meticulous exploration of the territory is essential. In fact, it is not just a simple visual investigation of the landscape, which is represented through sounds, videos and photos. It is also a deeper research identity of Lozio, in search of features that often go unnoticed because of their undeniable smallness and apparent simplicity. Thus, the Greek artist dwells on all these elements and carefully and visually analyses them carefully and visually through a microscope, acting as a new kind of scientist, discovering small scientist, who discovers small universes that seem to belong to another reality.

In this way, he emphasises the action of looking and listening to  the surrounding environment in order to fully grasp what the territory has to offer and to tell. In this sense, Aléxo listens carefully to this land and creates his own visual archive of Lozio, which is made up of the different pages inserted in a sort of diary, broken down into a multitude of materials. In fact, images, satellite data satellite data, routes, videos, words, details and suggestions alternate in this diary, evoking a journey into the depths of the different essences of this earth. In this sense, an unusual narration of nature is represented through an interrupted visual flow, but nevertheless connected in time. However, the listening action does not stop with the physical physical and tangible aspect of the artist's book.

In fact, his archive is not useful only to underline the personal and artistic experience of Aléxo in Lozio, but also becomes a universal story in the making.

The project is based indeed on the data transmitted by a seismograph in the area and an algorithm elaborates in real time a continuous and infinite connections between the different materials on the basis of the imperceptible - but always present - movements of the ground. Thus a new artistic and contemporary prophecies born, launched in real time by a modern digital Sybil. In this way, technology helps the place to manifests itself: its nature and its primordial relationships with human beings are showed through a layering of images and meanings capable of expressing the ultimate essence of the place, enclosed in alienating and somehow disturbing compositions, which are charged with that prophetic message of eternal creation. In the end, Lozio's nature and its Sybil will give life to memories and stories as long as the earth will move, continuing to narrate and to tell itself through its small and evocative details.

Now, this code choose randomly 1 image and 1 video from her "memory", double exposure, the photo remains still but the video’s exposure change accordingly to the data of the seismograph in real time (lighter or darker).

Next with Vito Drugo Degirolamo and Vito Custodero, experts in computer code, we create “her brain”. An online computer machine and the code so she can think.

In the end, the nature of Lozio and its Sibyl will give life to memories and stories until the earth will move, continuing to narrate and tell itself through its small and suggestive details.

visual content consisting of macro/micro photo/video of the zone, Lozio, Italy. Natural forms that the human eye can’t see easily.

"the diary", during the period of residence

A prophecy that is narrated by nature itself: my task as an artist was only to create its archive of memories and link them together; but now, as long as the earth continues to move, its vibrations will give life to these memories, and so it will tell itself.
Future stories are thus born from the stratification of past memories: you cannot tell something without having lived it first.
This book/calendar was created during the falía* 2020 artistic residency and has become part of my main research. It is made up of materials collected during my stay in the Lozio area: images, satellite data, routes, videos and texts by Alice Vangelisti thus give life to an unusual narration of the nature of the place in a visual flow connected in time.
Taking inspiration from the figure of the ancient Sibyls, I decided to bring nature and scientific research together to give life, voice and form to a new contemporary "Sibyl".
Thus, shapes, colours and structures discovered directly on site come to life in this experimental calendar in progress through pages that show themselves as fragments of the memory of the Sibyl of Lozio, constructed and collected during my stay.
