Polska Travels: Composing (at) the Crossroads

In search of an itinerant musical home

The written thesis places the project within the framework of the Artistic Research field. Using the Stringar doctoral composition as case study, the text summarises the research findings and articulates reflections on underlying topics such as the emergence of the categories of "folk" and "art" music, the relation between the individual researcher and the folk musical traditions, the use of composition as method to construct a "temporary musical home" amidst all the fragments and influences that make up one's own ever-changing artistic identity.
