This is Liv Karin Alm's story about the sport of diving, red by herself in Norwegian. The Norwegian word for "to dive" is "å stupe". The composition, vocals and music production are by Luis Della Mea.
I was the choreographic leader for the exploratory and collaborative creation of I FRITT FALL (free falling) with Liv Karin and other dancers from The Dance Laboratory in Trondheim, Norway. This score was part of the piece. The work was included in a larger performance titled SØTT, SURT OG FORTALT (Sweet, Sour, and Narrated) in 2012.
Liv Karin is blind. Although she is afraid of water, she swims every week to practice being in the element. The piece was created from her experiences, reflections, and imaginative associations with water, swimming, and diving.
The Dance Laboratory is a dance company hosted by DansiT Choreographic Center in Trondheim, Norway. I established and led the Dance Laboratory as an artistic project by Inclusive Dance Company in 2001, and as a project in the municipality of Trondheim and my doctoral project in dance art at the University of the Arts Helsinki in 2003-09. I further was Artistic leader in 2011-12. In my leadership, I embodied the integrated role of choreographer/researcher/teacher.
The experience of entangling the roles of artist, researcher, and teacher in the Dance Laboratory has served as the springboard for my current work on the course A/r/tography in theory and practice in higher education (7.5 ects) at Stockholm University of the Arts.
Ingeborg Dugstad Sanders is the artistic leader of the Dance Laboratory since 2012. She also was Artistic leader in 2010-11. Previous artistic leaders include Susanne Rasmussen (2007–08) and Mari Flønes (2009–10).
