SOUNDSCAPE

ANONYMOUS PARTICIPANT

"Miskine, tu crois que t'es aussi français que leur fils?"

Miserable, you're actually thinking that you're as french as their sons?

"Plus facile quand t'as pas connu les sévices de l'Histoire"

It's easier when you haven't experienced the abuse of history

The last interviewee, who wished to keep his name and face unknown, is a French-Arab artist based in Maastricht whose artistic practice is music, more specifically music writing, and singing. He explains being at the primary stage of his art and receiving no musical education, still, has purposes and shared about it during his interview.

The anonymous participant explains his motivations in the need for intimate and personal expression, a genuine necessity to speak up for himself. Consequently, his music is not an art he wants to expose yet. His inspiration comes from the arts and cultures he goes through such as American music and French rap, particularly.

Afterward, the anonymous participant assessed his political engagement within his music, which he confirmed is present both in the texts he writes and also in his music in general. To justify it, he explained that he tries to express his emotions in his music; emotions such as sadness, frustration, melancholia, or rejection which result from the social constructions in which he cannot manage to fit. He voices the dissonance he observes in our society when it comes to injustice or incoherence. He reasons this feeling by his refusal to accept things as they are and his rejection of the fatality of life.

When it comes to his audience, the anonymous interviewee explained how little he already display his music, restricting himself to a close circle of friends and family. Up until now, he only sought acknowledgment of his practice and to understand if people liked it. He does not aim to impact an audience with his engagements yet, although he would be grateful if it happens.

His notions of artistic activism are limited as he stated not being familiar with the theoretical framework. Although he defined it as the combination of social or political activism with arts, adding that it makes art useful. Moreover, he explained that for him, all types of activism are complementary but artistic activism is the one kind that has the most impact on him which makes it a key component of activism in its broadest terms.

"Tu les envies, plus que ça tu les sauces. Regarde sa vie, il est génial ce Bezos. Faut que j'aille garage pour mes gosses."

You envy them, more than that you praise them. Look at his life, this Bezos is brilliant. I have to go work for my kids.
