Vision of memory through Latin American art: Brazil & Argentina

By Milagros Calderon Novoa

Throughout the process of creating my own pieces of art, I've found myself continously looking back to my past life and aspects that have modeled me into the person that I am today. Through this identity search I've found that my cultural backgrounds come of great importance in my life, and I wish to further implement this when working with my personal pieces. Latin America is build upon thousands of years of rich culture and history, in which its arts showcase this at an exponensial level. However, it's appreciation and recognition is limited throughout international borders, hindering it's beauty to the unknown world. As I dig deeper into the feeling of nostalgia and anemoia( the Nostalgia for a time or a place one has never known), I've found it important to dig deeper into how memory has been artistically portrayed in my home countries and how that might've impacted my view of the world as well as of my own art. Growing up in Argentina and Brazil has brought me two completely different perspectives in terms of arts and culture, which is why I bring forth both countries in seperate researches. By clickling on the images above, one can delve deeper into Brazilian and Argentinian artists that are crucial in the development of the arts in these countries, but also bring forth the idea of memories in distinct ways.
