Following are some texts, with accompanying videos, intended to describe different parts of the process and working methods in this project. The topics and thoughts are not organized in a chronological order, as I have bounced between them following inspiration and necessity (for preparing for a concert or playing with others). Quite often these topics overlap, and when they do I have made web-links between them. One can make one’s own path through these texts according to what attracts curiosity.
These texts are varied in nature because they have been written at different times and with different goals. Some are more reflective in nature and some are more technical. Some describe single experiments, others longer developments. These experiments and processes have not been done and written about in order to answer my research questions explicitly, but I hope that they nevertheless convey how they are working towards the projects stated goals.
Although it has been a major part of my process, one thing that is not described here in great detail, is the work that I have done to acquire sufficient technique on the keyboard to be able to play these tunes. As well as the technique for combining the keyboard playing with the foot stomping for the Setesdal tunes. Getting these instrumental chops have been one of the greatest challenges of this project. However now when listening back to the earlier concerts, I am relieved that to hear some development happening in this area. This process is not described in detail because I do not consider it to be an important part of my research. As I see the contribution of the artistic research in this project to lie more in answering aesthetical questions rather than technical ones.
