Experimental music and art for children

Because this is a practice-based research, the theoretical part is approached in a different way. This research looks at how to develop and create a workshop for children from a performer's perspective. The aim is not to provide a pedagogical method for exposing children to experimental music, but rather to look at how to create an aesthetic experience that children can take part in. Instead of looking at pedagogical methods that may be relevant, it is for the development of this research just as interesting to look at thoughts on experimental music and art for children.

The direction I take in the exploration will be based on the views and visions I have for this project. In order to understand the value and purpose of this research and artistic project, I believe it is important to have an overview of these ideas and theories, both my own and those of others.

This chapter consists of two parts. The first part deals with the definition and characteristics of experiential music.  The second part deals with theories related to the topic of art and music for children, and the differences between an educator's and a performer's approach to art and music for children. In both parts, you will find a section where my thoughts on these topics are elaborated in relation to this project.
