Autopoetry-Apparatus for Anticapitalistic Advertisement Material, 2021
AI-based sound-poems
The audience enters a space containing four loudspeakers on stands and a commercial thermal printer for till receipts, built into a console. An AI, trained and staged as an Autopoetry-Apparatus generates advertising texts in the writing and speaking style of the author Rolf Dieter Brinkmann. These texts are vocalized live and spatialized by the four loudspeakers.
Four AIs engage in conversation with each other, articulating different versions of the text generation. The loudspeakers, directed towards a common center for dialogue, function as discussants. Through varying speech rhythms and the emotional undertone of the spoken words, the apparatuses appear human-like, while digital material is converted into an immediate, analog experience. Thinking, formulating, competing, and inner states are generated solely through sound, making them audible. Individual texts are selected by a fifth, higher-level AI (referee) and printed in situ by the commercial thermal printer. However, printing on thermal paper is not durable. Over time, the selected poems fade until they are completely unrecognisable.
The document’s function dissolves, and the laboriously created and archived content must disappear again due to the medium. The new, momentarily created material evolves, is discussed in order to disappear again.
