omNIA vox futuri
—or the beautiful days sounding like dAIsy, 2022
vocal utopia for headphones and screens
In this audio-visual installation, the artificial voice dAIsy tells the story of her emergence into existence. Although technically sparse and glitchy, she conveys a distinct personality.
dAIsy seems to follow her productive scope, possessing personal views, ideas, conclusions—even expectations. She delivers background information and generates knowledge.
While she tells her story, the corresponding text appears parallel on the screen, running in a straight line across its centre.
However, voice and text are not synchronised at a fixed focal point, confronting the audience with unexpected and unforeseeable shifts in attention between reading and listening.
What is perceived cannot be reduced to a consistent or singular stream; instead, it requires a dynamic interaction between text and voice.
The audience is left to question: Is meaning captured in text or voice? Is voice transformed into text, or text into voice? Or do both, in their interplay, create a continuum?
