The third artistic component of Cyborg Perception is still at its sketch stage. In it, I aim to create variable “empathy tools.” For this, I will repurpose secondhand infrared technologies into vision-enhancing devices for use in performances. I envision the technology as headsets or goggles that allow performers to see the heat signatures of other participants. The visuals from the headsets will be recorded and displayed on screens attached to them. These images will be slightly glitched and modulated by data collected from the performers’ pulses or neural activity in the visual cortex via electrodes. To share both the performance sessions and the tools, I will create an online multimedia artwork.

This page gathers sketches of tools, inspirational infrared images, and reference images of historical infrared technology and photography. It functions as an ongoing archive and sketchpad , which I use to build up my research for the third artistic component.
